Choosing your Fjallraven tent

Choosing your Fjallraven tent - Wild Camping

Fjällräven tents are divided into three-season and four-season tents. Three-season tents are suitable for spring, summer and autumn. The tents are made of Abisko fabric. The material is light, thin and highly breathable, which is more suitable for use in Hong Kong weather. The four-season tent can be used in winter because it uses thicker fabric and strengthens the details to enhance the performance of the drawstrings and camping poles.

Perfluorocarbons, or PFCs, are used heavily by the outdoor industry because they are extremely water-repellent, but they do not break down in nature. In fact, they remain in place, stored in living organisms for years, gradually spreading as they seep into the food chain.

Since 2012, all Fjällräven products do not contain PFC DWR (Durable Water Repellent). Although PFC is not used in the tent fabric, it can still maintain windproof and waterproof functions, all due to the tight structure of the material.

Fjällräven tent styles include Dome and Tunnel series.

The Dome series is sturdy and Freestanding, and can be built without relying on drawstrings or nails. This gives you the freedom to choose your camping location, such as on rocky terrain. The tent has enough space and feels spacious indoors. However, tent vestibules are narrower than other types of tents and they are generally heavier than other types of tents, making them less suitable for long-distance use.

The Tunnel series requires drawstrings and drop nails to build, providing a larger comfortable space. Definitely ideal if you are camping with a family. Although the height of the tunnel tent is relatively constricting, it adds a front room to separate the sleeping area and the equipment storage area, and cooking can still be done even in bad weather.

More than 10 tents have been launched in the past, mainly divided into three series.

The Abisko series fabrics are lighter, thinner and more breathable, so the overall weight will be lighter. The Keb series is thicker and more waterproof than Abisko fabrics, and has various details improved to cope with winter weather. Polar is specially designed for polar camping and is the strongest and most durable tent in Fjällräven. The three models of camp poles are different. Abisko uses DAC Featherlite NSL, and the connection points have a wider diameter, making it lighter in weight. The Keb and Polar series use DAC Pressfit. The camp poles are precisely tailored to each tent model and have been pre-adjusted in arc to achieve optimal functionality, providing reliable stability even in strong winds.
